Amanda and Baldeep - Multicultural Wedding

Our featured wedding of the year is Amanda and Baldeep’s multicultural 2-day wedding! We loved how they incorporated elements from both the Sikh and Chinese cultures into their wedding. The wedding consisted of the Barat, Milni, Anand Karaj, Guru Ka Langar, a Chinese tea ceremony, and 2 receptions (that means two cakes :D).

Locations: Sikh Gurdwara (San Jose), Aria Dining & Banquets (Milpitas), Japanese Friendship Garden (San Jose), Dynasty (San Jose)
Photography: Inspired By Studio
Hair & Makeup: Wendy Ngo, A-List Makeup
Floral Phuong Trinh Bridal
Cake: Euro Delights Bakery

The day started with the Barat, in which the friends and family members parade Baldeep towards the Sikh Gurdwara where Amanda was waiting and watching from above.

Following the Barat was the Milni. Family members from both sides welcomed and offered each other floral garlands.

Baldeep, friends, and family then made their way to for “Tea.” Basically, they got together and ate delicious Indian food. We were able to participate in this as well…YUM. At this point, Amanda, the bride, is still in hiding, but don’t worry, her bridesmaids fed her.

Amanda and Baldeep finally get to see each other at the Anand Karaj, which is the actual union ceremony between the two.

The Sikh Gurdwara in San Jose is the largest Gurdwara in North America. It features some beautiful architecture.

Reception started at Aria, Milpitas, with a nice surprise performance from the Far East Dragon Lion Dancing team. This was followed with toasts (or roast, hence Amanda’s reaction), and lively dancing.

Day 2 started with portraits of Amanda and Baldeep at the Japanese Friendship Garden in San Jose. The pond was cleared out for maintenance, so we took advantage of that and climbed the man-made waterfall.

It is customary in Chinese weddings that the bride and groom visit each table to greet and thank the guests for coming. During this visit, guests would gift the bride and groom monetary gifts in red envelopes. Sometimes, guests will request that the bride and groom play a game before receiving red envelopes.

Bonus: Here’s Amanda enjoying a cup of sugar cane drink, but somehow manages to spit it into Baldeep’s face, lol.
